How it started / how it's going@regehr @dan @ricci The 80s were like the last time I watched any scripted television! I don't know what happened, I just never got into anything made after I went to Finland in 1988. (Lots of memories of action and procedural dramas of the day: The A Team, Airwolf, Knight Rider, Remington Steele, Manimal, The Powers of Matthew Starr — and even a few comedies like Night Court and Family Ties.)

(Trying to repost without Mastodon confusing it with an old abandoned reply.)You have not run a real filesystem until you've tried to move or back up a directory tree like /corpusname/v3/test1/param1=%f,param2=%d,param3=%f,filter=%s/s/l/u/slugword/%05d.{jpg,json}.

This is all too true with respect to filesystems, because graduate students only know Python, and within Python they only know how to do string substitution, open, read, and close. (Plus whatever ML library is currently au courant.) Seek? Never heard of it. Databases? That's a different research group.
