@NasaGuy @rysiek Mine owners also had a company bar at the camps, which took the company scrip. Many owed money to the company at the end of the week instead of making money.
@futurebird @c9a JavaScript can be server-side with nodejs or bun or deno. I generally don't like JavaScript on the backend but it has the benefit of being the same language on the frontend and backend. PHP is still a reasonable option, and it runs easily on cheap shared hosts. There are better backend service language options (I prefer Go) but JavaScript or PHP is entirely defensible for students just learning how to do things on the web. Python is another good teaching option.
@mina @DziadekMick I suppose we could use January 3rd, but that would bring it down to only to digits. The ultimate pi day would be 3/1/4159, but I don’t expect to live long enough to get there.
@ApostateEnglishman @cstross @georgetakei Various strains of “rationalism” and neoliberal-adjacent thought valorise “high decoupling”: the ability to rationally do long-term cost-benefit calculations without being overwhelmed by the enormity of one’s immediate actions. Perhaps the apex of this is decoupling from any inner life at all?
@foone it enables you to filter people who are enraged by pictures of women with dyed hair, scenes of war, or the way people squeeze toothpaste tubes. I think you might be onto the next Cambridge Analytica here!
RE: https://mastodon.social/@ikuturso/116074579203879354@_elena @luca There are some new details out on who is behind W Social, what they're doing etc. They have a fairly well connected advisory board of politicians and tech industry big wigs it seems (see quoted thread).
