@_elena on the native Android app in Mastodon I have almost the opposite issue: looks like there is very little engagement and once I like or boost it shows the real numbers which are greater usually.Its great that W exists on a principle level, but this feels like they are doing what Facebook did: having fake engagement to keep the service appealing.It could have been Europe leading software by example but it feels mostly another corpo BS app

@aral Wow, thanks for helping me put into words the deep-seated feeling I had that WSocial is meant to be the lab where mandatory EU digital ID is to be developed and tested on willing participants.

One day #WSocial will be used in a book to illustrate the type of companies where a bunch of management types think of a product but outsource the actual work to dispassionate employees or contractors.

@_elena it does make sense now they chose the Bluesky codebase instead of Mastodon since Bluesky never really has been committed to open source in the way that Mastodon with its way stronger user protections from the license was.Truth social would have loved to take something with a permissive license like MIT/BSD too if it had existed way back when they were starting out.Note Eurosky isn't really that much more committed either though. They promote closed source ATproto apps like Flashes.

@_elena I tried to access it as well, but in order to view the 30 min panel discussion, a 99 euro streaming pass to the whole conference was required. If somebody has one, the site says a replay is available for the next 14 days.
