I know for a fact that it is possible to have a mastodon handle like @example.com , no second @, no "username", only the server.

To diferentiate between fedi and bsky wafrn counts the number of @ in the username

@gabboman oh fuck, i can already imagine the absolute fucking mess it would be for wafrn to even attempt implementing the beforementioned concept...
you would basically need to hold a cache of all the known user handles, their type, where they point to, and also routinely check whether a domain holds either a pds or a fedi instance but ALSO what would happen if you happen to have both on the same domain????
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA -

I know for a fact that it is possible to have a mastodon handle like @example.com , no second @, no "username", only the server. Does anyone you know— even one person— use this?
(If the answer is yes— are they using it as an "official status updates account for a server" or using it personally?)
@mcc hmm, I kind of want to use my reinh dot com domain this way...

mcc@mastodon.social are you looking for examples of users out in the wild that do it?
@snarfed.org@snarfed.org is my example I can think of offhand. It doesn't even work with NodeBB uh oh heh

@julian uuhhh well you may have just found a bug in Tusky
-
mcc@mastodon.social to answer your question I believe it is Ryan Barrett's personal account.
-
@julian thanks.
So I'm on my phone and it's hard to look at this clearly— it seems this is a bridgyfed mirror of a bluesky account— is this correct?
-
@julian thanks.
