They are going to put ads into ChatGPT, apparently.
They should go ahead and put all the ads in there. Just load that thing up with ads. Go on. Do it.
Force ads into all the gen AI stuff too. Involuntary product placements. Unavoidable Coke cans in your expertly prompted masterpiece. At least one verse of your Suno banger singing about New Persil Automatic.
Popups for the latest mobile game in your vibe-coded app.
Go on, capitalism. Do it. You know you want to.
@llamasoft_ox Funny thing: in Germany Amazon lost a lawsuit about ads suddenly showing up in movies.
Users of Amazon Video/Prime suddenly hat ads in movies - and this was not allowed (see https://www.vzbv.de/urteile/urteil-gegen-amazon-einfuehrung-von-werbung-bei-prime-video-war-unzulaessig - German text). Sadly, this was only a thing against Amazon Germany - and we don't have ChatGPT Germany yet.
Anyways, this is another glorious day to fight #ChatGPTSD before it grows even stronger. The best day to stop using this sloprot is today.

@llamasoft_ox I heard a story that 'the main reason' they do that is because ChatGPT at the moment 'is not profitable' and is actually losing money, it costs lot more than what it's earning ( and apparently kept alive only by 'investors/hype' ? ). So they have to start grabbing money where they can and that seems to be only in 2 ways : p0rn and ads.

I don't see what's the fascination with having a conversation with a computer.
Consulting, searching for information is good but for conversations I rather talk to Sidney or Miss Noisy. š -

@llamasoft_ox Yes, that is probably one of their original goals.

Which is sad and also dangerous in so many ways.

@gilesgoat @Mafalda @llamasoft_ox it's a confirmation bias generator - a "friend" who only tells you how good and clever you are
I had someone telling me in all seriousness that he had a theory that there could be "a number bigger than infinity" and chatgpt told him he was right. Couldn't be shaken from it

@ahchay @Mafalda @llamasoft_ox ... except that in math, and there are many proofs of that, "infinity is NOT a number" ..

@gilesgoat @Mafalda @llamasoft_ox exactly that, it's a set theory. And I know that there are all sorts of weird edge cases in infinity theory, but he was talking about the classic start counting at 1 and keep going up concept
But he'd been told so many times by chatgpt that he was correct that he couldn't be moved

@ahchay @gilesgoat @Mafalda @llamasoft_ox i hate it but very occasionally I use deepseek. When I'm just struggling with regular search. Engines, I use it as a search engine.
It's very interesting because it shows you its background 'thinking' where it says things like, 'i must validate the users point of view'
And i always think, "why must you? I might be an idiot "
If search engines still worked, and there was actual information at the end of them instead of ai articles, I probably wouldn't need to use ai at all
