My husband tasted some asparagus and thought it was too salty, and I said, wait and try again later. Sure enough, it was ok later. -

@dillyd There was one brand of red sichuan pepper that I once had that had a similar sounding thing with it.
But it was just one brand, so I wonder if it's brand and/or cultivar specific?
Because the ones I use all the time feels like they don't have that issue

But even then that was only when I used the peppercorns as a topping spice, not in cooking

This is my first time cooking with it myself, so I have no basis of comparison. But definitely just the first with many to come. It was good. -
