The first two interior paintings in the hedgehog feeding station.

@michaelgemar @nev thank you! It's so close to finished, I'm so excited
-
Well I'm baffled.
@babe ikea for hedgies

If you're just joining me and have no idea what I'm doing:
I'm decorating a hedgehog feeding station (for wild hedgehogs, not pets), painting works of art on the walls of it and putting ornate gold frames around them.
Getting a cultural exchange going.
@babe Whoa I didn't realize your hedge hog camera feed was wild, I thought they were pets!! That's awesome! -
A small detail but important one: screws.
Even if you buy expensive ones that say they won't rust, they still might rust. In any outdoor project it's always a sticking point.I'm mainly using timber wolf which is fine, but the small ones are an unknown and will be exposed to the rain, and in a place that'll pool. My go to for such things? Nail lacquer.
Very hard wearing, sticks like shit, and absolutely won't come off unless you want it to.
@babe as an added bonus: makes them tamper-proof! (Not kidding; this is literally what they do if you order equipment with screws for government services)

@hufman Yeah it's why there's no activity for months at a time, it's all dependent on the local population finding it and turning up regularly.
I don't even see them in person most of the time. If I do it's because something's gone badly wrong and they need some intervention -
How it'll look on the camera
The floor is set! The slug tape is applied! We are good to go!

I'm leaving it indoors a few more days to be certain the epoxy is alright and then it'll be put out and the roof put on it. I'll get some all pics when it's in place and set up
A platform was set up out in the woods today for the Igel's Nest to rest on, so that's now all set up and good to go.

Forgot to add the new paintings, now they've got frames on
@babe jfc you might just have more hobbies than I do.
I enjoy the interior design. It has a vaguely late 90s (or possibly early 2000s. My brain thinks my entire youth happened in the 90s but that's very much not the case) vibe I can't quite place, if that makes any sense at all.

@babe your dedication to the well being of the hedgehogs of the area is outstanding. I really hope you get visitors to your feeding station after all the work you've put into it.

@gordoooo_z I am just 148 hobbies in a trenchcoat
Yep! It was inspired by the Friend's apartment door. I wanted to go very kitschy and retro
At some point I plan to buy another and do it in an american diner style with movie posters on the walls

I will caution that you shouldn't expect to see any hedgehog videos any time soon. Even if the rat problem can be controlled quickly, it's still likely to involve a lot of waiting for them to find the place

@babe Slug tape?
Also, how do you discourage rats without harming wildlife?

@EveOfTheFuture Tunnel traps and bait stations placed strategically.
The traps are too small for hedgehogs to fit in and placed too high up for any potential hoglets to reach, but rats would have no problem.If rats have a choice between wet meat cat food and peanut butter, they're choosing peanut butter every time.

@EveOfTheFuture And slug tape is copper tape. It's not entirely effective, some will still cross it, but it'll keep the numbers down. There's a ring of it around each entrance and on top of each wall, acting as a barrier. They hate copper

@babe I would suggest signage, but, well, I don't think hedgepigs can read.

@babe We get a lovely thing to start looking forward to from now on. I don't mind waiting for hogs. This looks amazing!

@babe I am confident we will not have to wait for the news when The Igel has landed
