Are GIFs a thing on Mastodon? I rarely see them around… I’m kinda missing a reaction GIF culture. Am I alone in that?

@hpod16@eupolicy.social there are but mastodon by default converts them into mp4 which annoys me

I use Trunks to schedule, but my preferred way to access mastodon right now is just on the browser on my phone@hpod16 This is how I post. Also, Tusky on Android lets me use the GIF feature on the keyboard.

@_elena @hpod16 I was mostly making gifs for many years. I took it really seriously for a long time. I was one of the first 20 "artists" added to Giphy's artist spotlight thing back before they were sold to Meta.. I was recently trying to get some of my old 3D film photography gifs back up at @gesticulation

@hpod16 Isn't GIF a totally dead format? GIF was a big thing back then. But now usually you'd have animated webp and modern video formats for animated stuff and of course jpeg, png and webp for static.

Can relate. I keep a reaction GIF library on my work laptop for teams chats with colleagues.
Should start one on my personal devices. Thx for the inspiration@hpod16 @Gargron @Erased_Citizen wow, I also have a library and also search when I’m missing one but often use the giphy creator app myself because either the ones I find are not exactly what I want or I don’t find them at all

@aeva @lritter The Heisenberg Compensators work best if they're at the start or end of the beam. If you're doing point-to-point, maybe total capacity is smaller - you can only do a few people? I have not checked canon on this though.
