silverpill@mitra.social isn't wrong though, in many cases the posts do mean to be posted in that community.
But it's an expressive thing. I'm able to mention a community like startrek@startrek.website and it won't be posted there, because I'm only mentioning that community.
And yes, Mastodon needs mention spam to function because otherwise people you reply to won't know they received a reply. It's ... an approach.

@mxjaygrant Yeah, I can see how that looks, but the timing was a coincidence. I scheduled this post with Fedica last night and it went out before I was even out of bed.
I intended it to be a call to action. I’ve said elsewhere in this thread that it was phrased poorly. I stand by that, even more so now that I see it interpreted as a signal that I don’t care. I’m sorry I wasn’t more thoughtful with my words.
I’m here to listen, and I’m here to do my best to address the needs and concerns of our community. I hope I can prove that to you with my actions.
