@darius I know it's not in the spirit of your joke, but it's really interesting to look at the original mailing list archives for Webfinger and see all the different alternatives that were considered: DNS vs HTTP, different path, JSON vs XML, and so on. It's cool to see it coalesce into the protocol we use today.
