I spoke with @evan at #Fosdem about his project tags.pub. It sounded like a good idea, so we enabled their relay on our server
to see how it works.In Mastodon, you can follow hashtags. This shows all posts with this tag, known to your server, in your timeline. But it will only show the posts known by your server. (1/3)
Tags.pub tries to solve this by boosting posts with hashtags. For example when you use the hashtag #mastodon, it will be boosted by @mastodon . If you're interested in that hashtag you can follow that account to see all those boosted posts.

@mwadmin @mastodon But why generate all that extra traffic on the network when people who are interested can simply follow the tag themselves? Why would they follow an extra account when they can simply follow a tag?
I have to think that this increases traffic and costs to admins. I know it increases the number of notifications I get. What am I missing here?

Er zijn verschillende manieren, je kunt bijv #NoTagsPub in je bio zetten.Mag ik vragen wat je er storend aan vindt? Ik ben aan het evalueren of dit iets toevoegt.

@mwadmin heb je mijn bio gezien het staat erin maar het werkt niet , ik vind het ook niet prettig om dit in mijn bio te plaatsen om er vanaf te komen, daar is een bio niet voor, wat ik er storend aan vind dat hashtag die ik gebruik wereldwijd verplicht verspreid wordt en zo niet meer over mijn eigen content ga , ik vind de toegevoegde waarde dan 0 , Mastodon gaat de kant op van Instagram en FB daar gaat men al jaren niet meer over de eigen content.
