So, can I tell you how stupid the world is sometimes?
Last night, on the flight back home from Lisbon, I wore a mask because I have a shitty cold and I do not want to give it to others.
I'm coughing and snuffling and clearly ill.
The guy in the seat next to me looks at me and says - what's with the mask?

And I really thought about taking it off, because the pleasure of giving him my cold was actually pretty delicious.
But I then thought yeah, but then he'll give it to totally undeserving people.

@Remittancegirl Oh, we need a whole bank of clever and/or snarky responses to silly questions like that.
I was in an airport on Monday and Friday, and I only saw one other person with a mask. Theirs looked way more comfortable than mine, too.

Anyway, what I guess I'm trying to say is that masks aren't just for Covid.
Wearing a mask when you're sick is just being decent to other people.
Plus, if you live in a country with universal healthcare, you're supporting the health of the system.

@Remittancegirl During the pandemic, I went to the optometrist, fellow came up to hold the door. He said "you'd look better without that mask so I could see your perdy smile." Mental image of me kneeing him to the groin so hard that a testicle briefly bulges from his left nostril. Why is it almost always a he?

@Remittancegirl
Not wanting other people to get ill is a form of empathy.And empathy, as we all know, is the root of all evil (according to MAGA).

@Remittancegirl Fucker would probably have been all smug about it, too. "i AcTuaLLy HaVe A wOrKiNg iMmUnE SyStEm". Bully for you, bro.

@Remittancegirl "it's for a hallowe'en party I'm going to"

@Remittancegirl Good for you! on masking and restraint. 👍
On the positive side, (always look on the bright side of life 🎶 ) masks are a wonderful shortcut to deciphering someone's character. Buddy just let you know in one sentence that he's not someone you want in your life. Empathy deficient.
Hope the flight wasn't too long, and the cold goes away soonest.

@isotope239 "interesting. You'd look much better with one on, though". @Remittancegirl

@Remittancegirl especially wearing a mask while taking public transport since people are either hacking up their lungs or sniffing like the biggest line of sugardust or coughing without covering

@Remittancegirl I think in the train this morning I only saw 2-3 other people masked.
Meanwhile 2 people a few seats back were coughing their lungs out.
I wear a mask not to get sick because of these people but also because I want to normalize wearing a mask in public transport.

@aSweetGentleman I do tend to wear a mask in enclosed environments. Luckily, I live in a place where a lot of the eating and socialising is done outdoors. Most shops have permanently open doors, etc.
But I lived in Asia for 20 years, so when I am sick, I wear a mask simply as a courtesy.

@Lukas Guess who arrived at my house this noonday?

@Remittancegirl @aSweetGentleman Thinking of this gives me almost the sensation of a hole in my memory or something. We have several invasive tropical mosquito species here we did not used to have growing up when I used to be able to spend more time outside. But is it just not mosquito-y enough there for that to be an unbearable issue when stuck in one spot? Everywhere I’ve ever lived or traveled it was.

@Remittancegirl @aSweetGentleman I wish that was more common here. I went to the hospital for a flu jab today and I was the only person I saw masked including staff.

@cwicseolfor No, we don’t have much of a mosquito problem @aSweetGentleman
