  • So in weird news, random noises coming from Cassie while sleeping this morning. First was a loud HONK like a goose but in her voice that startled me fully awake. Then a weird horse like noise, like if it was annoyed. Then something I can only describe as Elmer Fudd very quietly mumbling under his breath. And I woke her up after she sounded like a boat puttering through water.

So help me decide Fedi. Is my wife which?

@NoApollonia We were staying in an alleged haunted house with two other couples. In the middle of the night, we were trying to sleep, and Sara kept hearing a scratching noise. I got out of bed and looked around, and determined that the noise was coming from underneath an armoire—and when i stopped to look, a large muppet-like rat skittered out. I grabbed it. It honked in surprise, before asking me (in my voice) to let it live, and just drop it off outside, and if i promised not to harm it, it would give me prophetic advice.

I said, "I wasn't going to kill you anyway, bestie." As i opened the exit door its eyes rolled back and it told me, "Beware the three." Then it scampered into the night.

The other two couples had also woken up, from their own strange happenings. They grumbled in annoyance. We ended up in the living room, with the lights on, discussing the weirdness.

Someone glanced towards the darkened hallway and froze. I noticed, and a mummy was shambling towards us, with a mean-looking cloud of insects hovering around it. A werewolf charged in, crashing through the sofa, knocking us all to the floor. And an axe flew in from the shadows, followed on foot by an intimidating man in tattered overalls wearing a white football helmet. He grabbed the axe from where it has stuck in the wall near one of us. The mummy pointed, and the cloud of bugs flew towards us, but someone knocked the large coffee table in front of us as a shield. I could hear the bugs chewing at the wood. The werewolf shook off its confusion and lunged towards us, and we managed to sidestep it, but it shattered our makeshift bulwark.

Then the six of us were squaring off against the trio of movie monsters. We turned and ran through the sliding glass doors behind us, down the hill and out to the boat dock. We knew from earlier in the day that the boat would barely hold five people. Someone would be getting left behind. I started up the boat motor. The creatures began advancing down the hill.

    And then i woke up.

@NoApollonia the HONK really gives it away, but it's probably better if I don't clarify

@oblomov LOL not sure which vote that would mean, but guessing the second?

@NoApollonia ah sorry, yes I meant the cartoon character. There's a, hm, “particular” artist that wrote a “perfectly normal comic where nothing weird happens” where the HONK is indeed the beginning of the weird things happening (uncharacteristically tame and wholesome for the artist in question, FWIW).

Ze Frank's The Show was self-hosted QuickTime videos on a blog with comments and an RSS feed. A community forum, wiki, and series of interactive web pages tied it all together. Social media was a bunch of blogs linking to each other. Facebook opened to everyone in September of that year, Google bought YouTube in November, Steve Jobs announced the first iPhone in January 2007. Twitter blew up at SXSW in March and iPhone came out in June, the beginning of the end for the dominant open social web.

@G3rt mi chiedo quando la si smetterà, nel piccolo occidente, con questo senso di colpa che ci fa sentire causa di tutti i mali del mondo.
