This year, an EU general knowledge test will be a part of the #EPSO examinations.
Do I really think I stand a chance at being in the top-scorers of thousands of people who will apply? Not really. But I do think I could have a great deal of fun studying.
I love EU history and general knowledge, like, did you know the first president of the directly elected European Parliament was a woman called Simone Veil, a Holocaust survivor?
#EPSOprep is starting already@hpod16 I worked for EU projects for many years but didn't know that it exists. 😁
And I'm glad I don't have to take tests like that anymore. As a German living abroad, I wouldn't even pass the naturalisation test in Germany anymore – and I know a hell of a lot about German politics and history... or so I thought.
I love your idea about bringing EU tips and issues to Mastodon! I often see that so many people even in the EU don't know the simplest things.

@Veza85UE ahhh luckily the questions are multiple choice, so you would have to wait until you get to the free text essay questions to start venting your frustrations about the council 😆

Indeed - what is #EPSO?
It stands for European Personnel Selection Office, and it's the service that handles the competitions for new aspiring staff.
Essentially, if you want to become a civil servant at the EU, you have to pass one of their exams, we just call them EPSOs.
There used to be one for "generalists" every year, but it's been a while.

Well, #Facebook groups are still a major way for people who are studying for the #EPSO to connect, share study tips, help eachother ...and do lots of complaining...
In any case, why can't the Fediverse fill that space?
So I plan to blog about it as I study: to promote the EU here, and to draw more EU nerds to Mastodon, who may hear that EU nerds are sharing real cool study tips over on the Fediverse...

@hpod16 How much time do you have?😄 tldr: though he often annoys me, Keating has it spot on here and I think the consequences for the way EUropeans vote are dire and enabling the Worst people in politics. No body politic can NOT be dysfunctional with this level of ignorance from its citizens about who runs the EU and is ultimately responsible for its decisions.

@Veza85UE well, it's not my place to comment all too much, I'll just say that I think we could use some more competence areas in which the council does not vote with unanimity, but with QMV. But I'll leave it at that and stay otherwise very diplomatic. 🫳🎤

- in the same sense we will build up the Fediverse, everyone who host a community, or shares interesting content, anyone who engages, stays kind and makes this a place I'd rather be than X -

@hpod16 Haha, not trying to get you into trouble, but honestly I started the #WTFisTheCouncil tag because I couldn't stand to see yet another Mastodon user make irate posts about why isn't von der Leyen actually using Art. 7 and freeze Orban's veto?? Sometimes they also @ the Parliament or Kallas. Literally anybody but their own government/EUCO rep who can actually do something about it. It has funnier longterm consequences too, imo.

@Veza85UE ugh.... yes
So many decisions get caught up in the council, especially if it's a unanimity vote, meaning one country can have a veto. And the politicians in the member states love to blame Brussels for everything and call us grey faceless bureaucrats. Do I look grey to you?

L'esposizione alla luce può modulare le funzioni cognitive, ma i suoi effetti al di fuori di contesti di laboratorio controllati rimangono insufficientemente esplorati. Per esaminare la relazione tra esposizione alla luce nel mondo reale e prestazioni cognitive, abbiamo valutato l'esposizione personale alla luce e misurato la sonnolenza soggettiva, la vigilanza, la memoria di lavoro e le prestazioni di ricerca visiva nell'arco di 7 giorni di vita quotidiana, in un campione di adulti del Regno Unito ( n = 58) senza significative difficoltà circadiane (lavoro a turni o jet-lag). Un sottoinsieme di partecipanti ( n = 41) ha partecipato a una sessione in laboratorio comprendente una serie di test pupillometrici e psicofisici volti a quantificare le risposte visive indotte dalla melanopsina. Abbiamo riscontrato associazioni significative tra recente esposizione alla luce e sonnolenza soggettiva. L'esposizione recente alla luce è stata anche associata ai tempi di reazione sia per i compiti di vigilanza psicomotoria che per quelli di memoria di lavoro. Inoltre, una maggiore esposizione alla luce diurna e un modello di esposizione con ridotta frammentazione sono stati collegati a un miglioramento delle prestazioni cognitive nei compiti di ricerca visiva, vigilanza psicomotoria e memoria di lavoro. Una maggiore esposizione alla luce diurna e un'ora di andare a letto anticipata sono stati associati a una relazione più forte tra recente esposizione alla luce e sonnolenza soggettiva. Questi risultati forniscono un supporto concreto all'idea che le differenze intra- e inter-individuali nell'esposizione alla luce influenzano significativamente aspetti della cognizione, con effetti benefici della luce intensa a breve termine e dei modelli abituali di esposizione alla luce caratterizzati da giornate più luminose, fase di riposo anticipata e maggiore stabilità intra- e inter-giornaliera.

@evan I answered no because I'm over tired and my body hurts from PT, but the more I think about it the better it sounds. I could just repeatedly take PTO and sleep in. I wouldn't be able to make any progress on my projects, but much like the movie I could at least get a lot better at playing the piano and properly learn my other musical instruments. And I could call people and chat.

La triste realtà è che si è trasformato tutto il sistema dell'istruzione, dalla scuola all'università, in una logica meramente aziendale. Si produce in termini di quantità e si ottiene in termini di benefici quanto più prodotto riesci a sfornare.
L'esempio eclatante è come funziona il cosidetto "orientamento", in ingresso e in uscita.

purtroppo è scaduta anche l'università sostanzialmente per tre ragioni (a mio modesto parere):
1) acquisizione di un bacino d'utenza di livello già basso per le carenze strutturali maturate nel percorso scolastico
2) agganciamento dei finanziamenti al numero di iscritti. In sostanza si sta verificando quello che si è già verificato nella scuola superiore dall'inizio degli anni 2000: si accettano cani & porci pur di mantenere un congruo numero di iscritti per non "chiudere"
