VoidLinux to the rescue.
Obviously that LUKS, dracut and bin kernel was a glorious PITA on Gentoo.
But..... VoidLinux has everything I want, a tutorial that actually worked was found quickly and now dwm 6.8, st and dmenu all compiled gloriously. Let the patching begin. Remember, this time I wanted to start from zero, Unfortunately I have to work tomorrow 🤣 so this will have to wait to later in the week. But this feels very appropriate for the ThinkPad. Beer time 🍻 on a job well done 😆

@superuserdo Oh, and when you want to be one of the really cool kids follow this: https://it-notes.dragas.net/2025/12/22/void-linux-zfs-hibernation-guide/ by @stefano (yes, yes, the bsd.cafe barista) and setup zfs et al, according to this great tutorial. And don't shortcut with the script ☺️, do it manually, step by step, it is a great learning experience. Used that on my work laptop for two months. Either way, enjoy the Thinkpad!

@tess was the issue the dead keys altogether or the fact that the primary function of the apostrophes was dead keys? IIRC there's a variant where '`"~ do their regular stuff but AltGr (right alt) + key does the dead accent.

I have got to figure out a good way of keeping coworkers from messaging me in Slack. Some of them hang out on their like it's a fun chat room. I log in once every several weeks and see message from them like, "Hey, can I borrow the keys for the soundbooth today?" and the message was sent 17 days ago.

To add onto this, common fatalities of diabetes include kidney failure, increased complications of infection and delayed wound healing, and contributes significantly to heart disease/failure
Neuropathy/vascular leg and foot damage can definitely be a plot point if travelling is frequent and done by walking.
diabetes would be a good plot point because you could take it a lot of different ways if that's convenient (otherwise I agree with prostate cx)
