@Daojoan cool thread, interesting responses. Here's my take:
- I loved the self-checkout in Holland (as a tourist). You get the laser scanner thing, feel like a pro scanning your codes, go to the checkout cashier, done.
- I hate the self-checkout in Germany (Rewe supermarket) where they are paranoid and cheap, so in 1 of 5 cases the checkout machine says "please wait for a employee to control your cart". Then you wait for 5 minutes to endure a painful random check of your work. Never again.

@Mastokarl @Daojoan unfortunately we have the random checks in the Netherlands as well, esp during certain hours.
Edit: other than that I love anything that limits human interaction. Big fan of self-checkout.

Bad Religion are definitely among my favorite bands. I think I discovered them when I was 14 or 15,
and after listening to “We're Only Gonna Die” (the first song is always very important),
I remember I wore out the version of “80-85” that I managed to get hold of
(“How Could Hell Be Any Worse?” was impossible to find at the time,
and it was already difficult to find “80-85” in italian province).
Then, with the internet, it became easier to access everything, so I found these live and demos version,
which I love.

@amoroso That looks like an essay prompt! I don't disagree with you that the period you have in mind saw a "Cambrian explosion" of computing devices and peripherals, but there wasn't a matching set of socially empowering politics along with that. The politics were libertarian and individualist.
On a social level, the ads in BYTE perpetuate the sexism and classism of the day. Computers were a revolution only for the privileged and those who hold power. The ads were aimed at that demographic. The purposes to which computers should be put were intended to entrench power in the hands of the privileged.

ieri ho scoperto che della mia classe solo un bambino, D., non fa religione (ancora devo capire che quatzo è religione uahah e vabe), siamo stat fuori dall’aula a disegnare squali, che in spagnolo sono tiburones, non lo sapevo, e balene.
