I'm on Koofr since a few years: they provide their on encrypted Vault but it's also rclone compatible.
There's also Filen and many others.
(But I'm not managing photos, I'm using file names tags to search)Or, specifically for photos, Ente Photos or Cryptee.

@amoroso I've used that, Ecosia and DDG. All three use Bing, but I know that Ecosia and Qwant are working to make their own index (which, as I understand it, will primarily be for French- and German-language content).
I think all three are basically in the same ballpark, quality-wise. With DDG, if you use "noai.duckduckgo.com" , they turn off their AI suggestions *and* try to filter out AI-generated images from image searches - I don't know if Qwant has something similar, but right now that's why I'm using DDG.

@amoroso I talked with someone from Qwant here and while they rely on Bing for now, they’re working with Ecosia on establishing own index, so eventually they will be better off.

For the past few weeks I've been using Qwant which works reasonably well and has a clean design.
What do you think of this search engine? Does it rely heavily on Bing?
