@ErickaSimone @Mastodon Hear, hear.

@ErickaSimone @Mastodon I'm building a new activitypub stack for commercial use by creators, & I'm starting on the moderation component. I'm one developer, & moderation is important but I am no expert. Who should I talk to, or where do you recommend I start? Stack is here https://codeberg.org/whythawk/hop-sauna
@GavinChait @Mastodon this is a great question and there are a few users on here that have both the knowledge and the coding background to be of use. I can definitely give social context and make some suggestions if it helps.

@ErickaSimone @Mastodon that would be great... Challenge I see, just from the outset, is that moderation by people on a specific app is only part of the challenge as there needs to be a way for site mods to collaborate & share info across federated services, & that latter aspect is beyond what any one app, stack or developer can do.

@GavinChait @Mastodon so the problem INSIDE of that challenge (lol) is also the issue of consistency. Some people are very serious about anti-racism/fascism on and off their servers, where as others are not open to zero in on abusive behaviors. I think setting the tone, then maintaining that tone across servers and users is also going to be a thing.
Part two is also difficult, keeping abusive users from evading punishment, creating new account. So. A lot to address.

@ErickaSimone @Mastodon yeah, I have some good ideas & this will be my January/February focus, but would be great to have people - like yourself - who can sanity check me. Then also, if there are emerging standards for sharing moderation data, would be good to learn what those are.

@GavinChait @Mastodon would love to help, let me see if I’m available for your activitypub.

I would start with IFTAS moderator needs assessments https://about.iftas.org/moderator-needs-assessment/And if I may, I helped conduct some moderator experience research https://letterbook.com/blog/post/2024/11/18/moderation-tooling-research.html
Your instance staff may be open to just talking with you. I'm building https://letterbook.com/, and I'm around to talk about this stuff
