@dansup my thought here is that the country of orgine here doesnt matter. If the better Open-source alternative is american ill use it. As long as the developer isnt some MAGA guy it should be fine

Pixelfed is American, but not from the USA. š
And of course, I'm also falling into this trap from time to time...@kleisli i mean the app was made by a canadian and not by all american countries collaboration

are you the only canadian lead developer on the fediverse? if it's going to be about Canada, you should try and find out if there are other federated services with a large degree of canadian development

@deadsuperhero so, here's my best bet. I can be wrong!
1. Get some servers to implement the API well.
2. Get some must-have clients that run on those servers. This shows the value of the API.
3. Our leading servers shift to supporting it.That may work; I don't know. It's my best bet right now!
I want to note that WordPress is working on the API!

It's well-known that we love the ActivityPub API at the Social Web Foundation.
I think it would be great for our community to have an ActivityPub API hackathon sometime this year -- hopefully this summer. Hackathons are a great way to engage a lot of developers really quickly. They also are a great way to test that an API has enough power to get people from zero to working app in a day or a weekend.
I see a few great times to do this:

To your main point, fedi on Mastodon is all just everybody talking in the same room. Certainly that's why it seems like there's so much meta-discussion about AP.
This isn't the case on the threadiverse, where discussions are segregated/categorized by community.
