@jackryder I can absolutely dominate a lot of things 😏
Sadly, Guinness only has one lockpicking record, and I just beat it yesterday.

@alice @jackryder Did you actually send in the video as proof to get yourself certified as the record holder? or does it have to be witnessed by somebody from Guinness or something?
(I only hold one Guinness record myself and it's as co-creator of the world's smallest comic strip, we didn't need to have the creation witnessed since it's a physical artifact anyone could look at and verify, which last I heard was on display in the Dutch comic museum in Groningen)

@gollyhatch my partner and I go out on love lock hunting dates. When I get 1000, they're going in a museum art exhibit.
@alice That's a cool idea! I eventually gave up 'cause those locks are so low quality it stopped being fun, so instead I focused on "homemade" love locks (random different locks with the lovers' names just scribbled on with permanent markers) just to get a big variety of locks to practice with. Also where I live the legal situation is kinda tricky, if not to say insanely stupid. You can get in real trouble for cleaning bridges here unfortunately, so after the lockdowns when there were more people out at night I didn't want to take the risk.

@alice @jackryder Anyone with a decent microscope, that is - it was engraved into the side of a human hair lol
-
@eruonna always.
@alice Never change.
-
@gollyhatch oh, of course not! I stole them.
Well...relocated them, technically.
Along with about 400 of their friends.

I was thinking there was a guinness but also a "speed runner" kind of place? More digital?
I'm kind of shocked there is only one category to be honest. It seems like there would be at least a handful of them as standard. Locks have whole grades. I might be a pro at certain types but completely unaware of other mechanisms.
There should be a site or a group or a union... someone who can award people who do extra in the community.

@azonenberg @alice Wait, what?
I'm sorry - side convo. I need some links and context if you please?

@alice Really cute date idea though! 😍

What's hard and purple and pops in your hand?
@alice
What has 100 balls and fucks with old ladies?...

Bingo! -
@alice This reminds me of McNally and his astroglide. 🫠
@Darkasvim obligatory "I don't endorse Trump-supporters or their business associates".

@azonenberg I haven't submitted the record yet, but I plan to.

@azonenberg @alice That is so freaking cool.
25µm2 doesn't sound like you had a lot of room for wiggle. 😆
I think I'm somewhat familiar with the tool, the Versa? I knew someone who used something similar I believe.
That is really cool, congrats on your innovation!
-
@azonenberg @jackryder @alice Can we view the comic strip anywhere?

@jackryder (removing alice to not spam her mentions)
It could have been a lot smaller, I chose this size for artistic reasons. If you engraved the whole thing in a few microns square, nobody would be able to tell it was carved into a hair.
It had to be large enough you could see the shape of the hair too. So if someone just wanted to break the record there's plenty of opportunity to do so, I just think it would have less artistic merit if TOO small.
It was a dual beam scanning electron microscope / focused ion beam (SEM/FIB), using the electron beam for imaging and the ion beam for cutting and manipulation. These are normally used in semiconductor design for cross sectioning, failure analysis, and rewiring prototype chips to test bug fixes before spending millions of dollars on a new silicon revision.
The FEI Versa 3D is a specific make/model, the exact microscope I used was the one in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's materials science department (https://cmdis.rpi.edu/equipment/dual-beam-sem-and-fib) back when I was a PhD student there.
