@joepie91 @aburka @Viss I've observed in physical space bullying that there is a third type of person, who cares about being liked, but also is drawn to what they mistakenly perceive as power. They become the bullies' hangers-on without pushing boundaries so far they feel like they've become entirely unlikable to bystanders who are not targeted by the bullies but dislike their behavior anyway. (There may or may not be a political movement built on a shaky coalition of these sorts. And I may or may not have thought about this a lot in the context of a relative I understand a little too well.)
Online those people are the mealymouthed enablers. "Well, they do make an interesting point..." isn't enough to get them banned. When the bullies are banned they back off and won't make trouble on their own, but as soon as a new bully arrives they start supporting the behavior again.
@theotherbrook @aburka @Viss This is a very good point, and I could think of a few people in communities I've recently been involved in who would meet that description.

i'd love to think this will encourage the return of actual physical headphone jacks on phones and laptops but there are not enough paranoid consumers, i fear.

@funnymonkey @Viss some of those people also carrying on about how juice jacking is just totally not a thing while the O.MG cable has been around a long time now and most android phones are on end of life OSes that will never get updates.

@Viss I feel vindicated by my leaving the house shortcut that disables WiFi and Bluetooth so that I have to intentionally turn them on if I need them. I may just go to leaving Bluetooth off period, unless I’m using it.

more and more, i'm aligned with the under 40 crowd (other than the constantly being glued to a smart phone). audio, politics, so many other areas, the old 60s saw of don't trust anyone over 30 doesn't seem that wrong...

@nina_kali_nina I think Lynda's primary goal as a teacher is to help her students unlearn the destructive inhibition, shame and fear of making imperfect works and making art in general. Her philosophy is that "bad" drawings by naive hands are able to capture something fundamental that is a lot harder to reach as a practiced trained artist, and that fundamental something (she calls it an Image) to cherish and is worthy of study.
