This is Khaled from Rafah, #Gaza, #Palestine. How are you? How was your day?

This is a picture I took while we were preparing breakfast.
We light a fire with a little paper and plastic.

(The internet is a little weak, the pictures take forever to upload 😂)

I showed these pictures to a friend in Europe earlier, he was very surprised and shocked I use plastic to light the fire.
It’s true! We suffer a lot to light it up!

Yes, firewood is expensive. 10 shekels per kilo. We need more than 8 kilos daily because we are a big family.
Where do we get 80 shekels for firewood every day?

Our children go out to search for plastic and paper in the streets.

I light the fire far away from people. I light it very far away.
But only I cook on it and sit in front of it.
It doesn't hurt anyone, it only hurts me.

What should I do, my friends?

To get the firewood my family needs, we have to save 80 shekels every day, which is a large amount. We can buy better food instead with this amount, so that no one in the family remains hungry.

This is an old photo, and it’s true, I burned all that plastic in one session to feed the fire. I do that most days.
