@swelljoe for the last decade or more, I’ve built the really important stuff from source — plus every Perl development release, plus modules, just to provide additional testing cycles. Currently I build Emacs from source every month or two, from master or the current RC, just cuz.

@genehack I'm pretty averse to using from-source builds of stuff. I mean, I build a lot of software all the time, as it's my job to package a shitload of software...a bunch of Python, Nodejs, C and C++ code. But, I like the deployment (even on my own machines) to be a package, so I can keep up with it. So, if I'm building third-party stuff from source it means I'm pretty pissed off about the package situation. I ended up finding an RPM in the RPMFusion nonfree repo while building, though.

@box464 😆 I once sat near a young woman on a flight with a big sized smartphone with full brightness on… it was impossible to miss what she was doing. The amount of actions it took to add specific stickers, animations and text (with certain fonts) to an Instagram Story convinced me then and there that the argument « the Fediverse is too difficult for normies » is just a lazy, tired old trope.
