My band just played for a guy's 100th birthday party. There were lots of people there. He was completely with it, walking around talking to everyone and he gave a little speech with some jokes - but that's not the most remarkable thing. They served the cake on these plates. Is there really a market for these?

@paulrosen there's no other birthday after about ten years old that you can have your age on the plates without it looking silly. At 100, it's worth reminding everyone of at every opportunity.

@andybaio I will never forget the one time I met him after he spoke at an event in Dublin and I told him Wagamama was better than any ramen in L.A (I had never been to L.A) and he immediately stopped talking to me and walked out of the bar

I thought the middle one was the most interesting — it’s pre-1927, made with a sharpened nail for the barb instead of a sliver of bone (as became common), was likely made by, sized for, and used by someone just a bit bigger than I am (see the linked article, above), and is beautifully carved with an octopus and two otters — you can see photos of it online:
