Please consider that outside of America, SOME PEOPLE have witnessed shit like this IN REAL LIFE and you are re-traumatising them by forcing the video in their faces! You aren’t raising awareness to someone who has ALREADY WITNESSED STATE VIOLENCE IN PERSON. They KNOW, and they knew better than you did! What is happening in America is an atrocity, but do you think you’re the first people in the world to live through shit like this?? Where were you when it was happening elsewhere? How dare you demand this awareness from people you barely cared about until you wanted them to witness YOU?
I now know two people who have had full-on panic attacks because they have been forcibly reminded of horrific events from their past. What good do you think that did? These people are on your side even if you weren’t on theirs, and you just kicked their legs out from under them.

@astronomerritt Absolutely support your message. Just think about Iranians in exile, of which there are many here in Denmark. And the almost incomprehensible number of people killed by government forces in Iran this month.

@Sylvhem @astronomerritt I'm pretty desensitized to violence but am too emotionally overwhelmed to volunteer to harm myself further by viewing what are basically, snuff vids of a public execution. My nervous system was already shaken prior to this most recent murder. Reading detailed reports was enough to understand the depravity & cruelness of ICENazis executing Alex Pretti. My PTSD won't be helped by watching the vids.
#CWs are appreciated a lot on people being murdered on vids.

A reminder that your mods can mark posts as sensitive. If you see someone posting that but don't want harsh action taken against them because it's clearly a mistake you should do a local report and leave a note to your mods to just mark those as sensitive.

@astronomerritt Wholeheartedly agree. Reading "outside of America" was wrily "funny" though. America? Where every day someone takes it upon themselves to become judge, jury and executioner and they go on a murder spree while politicians wring their hands and claim they can't do a thing about it? I'm pretty sure that such videos are equally distressing to people who have lost loved ones in America's daily mass shootings.

@astronomerritt quite right. I heard what happened. I have seen verbal descriptions of what happened and what can be seen in the video. That is more than enough. I don't need to SEE what happened.
I remember, a long time ago now, people sharing the video of Daniel Pearl. I did not need to see that either and I remember it was hard work but I managed to avoid seeing that shit.
It shouldn't have to be hard work.

Io spesso mi soffermo sugli aspetti della tecnologia dove eri praticamente costretto a leggere il manuale per saperla usare, e avere una dose di pazienza non indifferente, tipo regolare l'azimuth di un lettore di cassette, ma c'era anche il discorso giochi, decisamente più incisivo e comune, che avevo "rimosso".

Slug Algorithm for On-GPU Rendering of Fonts with Bézier Curves now in Public Domain
The Slug Algorithm has been around for a decade now, mostly quietly rendering fonts and later entire GUIs using Bézier curves directly on the GPU for games and other types of software, but due to its proprietary nature it didn’t see much adoption outside of commercial settings. This has now changed with its author, [Eric Lengyel], releasing it to the public domain without any limitations.
Originally [Eric] had received a software patent in 2019 for the algorithm that would have prevented anyone else from implementing it until the patent’s expiration in 2038. Since 2016 [Eric] and his business have however had in his eyes sufficient benefit from the patent, making it unnecessary to hold on to it any longer and retain such exclusivity.
To help anyone with implementing their own version of the algorithm, there is a GitHub repository containing reference shader implementations with plenty of inline comments that should help anyone with some shader experience get started.
Although pretty niche in the eyes of the average person, the benefits of using on-GPU rendering of elements like fonts are obvious in terms of rendering optimization. With this change open source rendering engines for games and more can finally also use it as well.
