I've been unemployed for about a month now, and have submitted a LOT of job applications.

I just apply on a cycle. I tend to remember who rejected me for a few months... If the places I apply don't respond, then I can't be bother to track if I already applied there.
@kajer it’s more to avoid duplicating efforts of applying if I already have.

I will say this... I provide Resume, and minimal information. The effort I expend is clicking no on all of the demographic questions.
If an application process is asking for Resume data outside of me uploading a PDF, I'm done.

@kajer I can’t imagine that works very well, but you do you.

@Wrewdison lol, this is why i haven't had a response in a year... maybe it's the LLM prompt injection, or the claude rejection string?
hah

I've been unemployed for about a month now, and have submitted a LOT of job applications. So many that it's become difficult to keep track of where I've applied, who has responded, etc.
I've tracked this kind of thing in spreadsheets before, but this time decided I'd put together a small app to track it things.
Searchlight is the result of that effort - tracking companies, positions, and interviews - making it a lot easier for me.
@Wrewdison looks very handy. Is it shared somewhere? (I’m not seeing it on your site)

@Wrewdison I've applied to so many positions since last March and gotten almost nothing.

@dgodon Not yet - though I certainly can share it out.

@maaneeack Yeah, it's brutal. Which is why I'm trying to a.) keep busy and b.) reduce / eliminate duplicated effort of applying to the same position more than once.

@Wrewdison I've done that several times already, sometimes it will tell you you've already applied. Just not until you've submitted the application.

@maaneeack NGL - so have I. That may have been part of what prompted me to make this.

For those who are interested in using this for themselves, I've added an MIT license and opened up the repo (https://forge.hackers.town/Wrewdison/distinct-canyon)
It's still VERY early for it, and I'll be improving it and fixing bugs as they come up.
Enjoy!

@Wrewdison Do you want a job or a relationship with an organization doing great things? I don't see a whole lot out there wanting to do anything more than suck their own ass and share it with their friends. There's plenty of work out there to be done if you need money.

@cmthiede I'm looking for a job where I can make a difference and do great things.

@Wrewdison I haven't come across too many that aren't hyped up on courting one of the big AI giants, or one of their platform offshoots trying to dominate whatever slice of the market for Emperor Palpatine with their custom recon agents. Everyone's going goo goo gaa gaa over light bright emoji pants.
Good luck 🤞

@Wrewdison I’d be interested. I started with a spreadsheet but have been using a web app called Teal, which has the basic features you describe but also AI and some shady vibes.

@dgodon you're more than welcome to run this. It's pretty straightforward to get running, but if you run into any issues let me know.
