First, because attention is a human need and if someone’s desire for attention motivates them to do good things then… good? This is how positive social pressure functions?
Second, because shouting about someone doing something just for attention is also doing something just for attention…

@calcifer there's a facebook page that rips shreds (supposedly comedy) off volunteers (fire, rescue/assistance) who publicly comment that they're a firefighter or first responder or whatever, or if they're seen out (such as at a fast food place) in their uniforms. Double demerits for mentioning years of experience or awards received. I find it bizarre - why aren't people allowed to be proud of their achievements?
