How does XMPP work?
-
How does XMPP work? I'm looking at Jabber's website and apparently some clients are both clients and servers at the same time or something? It's quite confusing...
Are spaces or multi-channel groups (like discord) a thing in xmpp? Which clients support that on iOS and Linux and etc?
Is Movim a client or a server or what?
Are groups hosted in the server of the user who created it like on Matrix or what?
Any easy tutorials I could send to my discord friends?
@luana@wetdry.world the only thing I can answer is Movim is a client I'm pretty sure since it can work with other XMPP servers like Prosody and Ejabberd
The other stuff idk XMPP is pretty much everywhere and can be implemented in a variety of ways. It's even used for push notifications on iOS and Android -

@luana Tired, so answering in smaller chunks because my short term memory is out of juice.

@luana Clients and servers are two different things. Not sure what's saying they can be the same, that doesn't make sense.

@luana Groups (group chats - MUCs) are on the server.

@drwho A group with subdivisions, like discord guilds or matrix spaces

@luana That is typically done on the client side. I think it can be synched to the server, it's been so many years since I set mine up I don't remember.
