@eniko I was thinking the other day that I was thankful to have no use for petrol. No car, and my lawnmower is push-powered.

@eniko In all fairness, I would have figured out a carless way to go about that. I'm sure a two wheeled cart, much like my grandpa used to have, would get it done. It was just easier to call a driver friend.

@eniko not owning a car rocks these days. And honestly, being in my forties means I get to make people think about what that means financially. All that money you need to buy, operate and maintain a car over the past 20+ years? I either still have it or have spent it on something more interesting than a polluting death trap

@eniko it’s also a good time to not own one which burns fuel (:

@gabrielesvelto wasn't really much of a choice on our part. our car died in 2018 and we could never afford to replace it
but fortunately we now live somewhere we can walk anywhere we need and otherwise its a 5 euro cab fare (cyprus is not a carless country)

@eniko I get you, and I think that the last few years of greedflation mean that a lot of people are in your same situation. Simply unable to afford one even if they *need* it because there are no alternatives (which BTW adds to the social exclusion of entire groups of people, migrant workers being one, for example).

@eniko and - I know this may sound weird - but this also plays a part in how I perceive and present my masculinity. There's a social expectation that someone like me should really own a big, expensive car simply because I'm a dude and that would somehow be an affirmation of my gender... and I'm so much like fuck that bullshit, I don't want any part of it.
