moving on to brosnan bond! there are four movies, beginning with GoldenEye (1995). yes, no space between the golden and the eye. it's very computer! sean bean is in this one. it's probably not going to end well for sean bean. because he is sean bean. aaaand he's dead.
judi dench plays M even in this installment, which if you think about it is most odd. are these two parallel bond universes where M remains a constant?

noticing about GoldenEye that it's very much filmed for blurry 4:3 TV conversion. that means packed readable close-ups, no elegant wide panavision shots as they were often common in the 70's, and as a result the general feeling is so pulpy and TV like. quite unbecoming and ugly.
compare this to No Time To Die from 2021 which absolutely banks on the fact that the target format is and will always be 4K widescreen.

this evening: The World Is Not Enough (1999). This is the first post-Matrix bond, but you don't notice it much, apart from the orchestra being backed by big beats, which already happens in the previous bond, so it's more 90's specific than Matrix-specific. I'm guessing the movies' production schedules overlapped, so one couldn't influence the other. But the next one is from 2002, where we should see the influence very clearly.

dalton was originally scheduled for more than two movies but a rights dispute unrelated to him delayed the next bond, and dalton couldn't wait.
the bond score is also spiffed up with beats - but they sound very "smooth criminal", very quincy jones - although it isn't him - it's john barry.
the title song is also very 80's - "The Living Daylights" by A-Ha (take on me).
