@greenpartyni What #Meta #google #Amazon does out there. And this is just the tip of the iceberg:
-
@noodlemaz Yes. In the case of a thinking organisation, I do. Pressure works sometimes. Saying nothing is sometimes the wrong thing to do. We all have our lines.
If it’s an individual I say nothing because we have to live in this shitty world and all of us - myself included - make compromises that we hate making. But where it’s an organisation that wants our support *because they are the ethical choice* then I’m going to say something…
@JimmyB @noodlemaz Organisations need to compromise too in this ugly world.

@harri @noodlemaz sure - but they can frame it that way. Not - hey look: we don’t like paedophiles so we’re quitting X.
That’s just rubbish. After all - what’s the difference between X today and X pre-latest scandal? Or X and Bluesky, Threads, FB etc?

@greenpartyni If it took you this long to get off X then it's not surprising that you are still on Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram and Threads. It's 2026 for God's sake. Are you not paying attention? Time to wake up! Stop being a collaborator.
-
@JimmyB do you think this will get more people off shitty platforms?
Really?@noodlemaz @JimmyB maybe, but it's not that I shouldn't stop doing something I can't stand just because others continue to tolerate it.

@greenpartyni Good for the moment, folks - but your journey has only just begun.
That journey is not just to oppose Elon's Grok Child Porn on his X Porn Thrower Platform - it's about a few more values:
Stand up against commercial antisocial media platforms enshittifying the internet.
Resist the attention industry's surveillance capitalism and targeted advertising.
Refuse to become complicit by posting on their platforms and feeding the algorithm trolls.Stand by your own slogan: DEMOCRACY DESERVES BETTER !

@greenpartyni OMG - you do a good thing and so many don’t think you are doing nearly enough. They seem to fail to understand that ONE good thing is a start. There’s no perfect solution and it’s important to reach audience somehow, somewhere. It’s a step in the right direction, and you have to be on media that the bulk of people you need to reach are on. Having high morals in a desert isn’t going to grow the party, but the naysayers don’t seem to understand that. 💚

Scolding is definitely the very best way to persuade people. The BEST. -

@MichaelMcWilliams it would be great if everyone we need to reach was on one perfect channel. Unfortunately they’re not. We maintain presence on platforms we personally may not like, but getting our messaging to potential members, volunteers, and voters where they are is fundamentally important.

There is a level of divisiveness in the media and video editing style that I would equate with the Trump campaign, and with American politics, it's edited a bit like an Alex Jones ragebait or WWE. I suppose this is where politics is. -
@greenpartyni I’m a big Green Party fan and I try not to wade in and piss on others’ parades but continuing to use Meta platforms, and only leaving X now isn’t somthing to be celebrated…
@JimmyB we’re a small political party. We have to use platforms to reach potential voters, even if we personally agree with your sentiments.

@greenpartyni
All social media platforms — Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, and Bluesky — are partners in the genocide carried out by Israel and the United States against Gaza.I say this honestly: I did not find any platform that truly embraces Palestinians and gives them safety to publish, except Mastodon.
Welcome to the world of Mastodon — a place where there is no space for those who control and support genocide.

@greenpartyni great stuff. I hope over time you'll leave Meta products too, but it takes time. Most people aren't anywhere else, yet

@JimmyB @harri and practically? Bluesky and Threads don't have an accessible AI that men are using to abuse and harass women and children multiple, many times daily, right now. That IS a material difference. You won't find me on bsky or threads, but to pretend they're exactly the same (for users/in terms of brand reputation impact etc.) is just unserious.
-
@noodlemaz I’d also point out that the line from GPNI is effectively ‘X is now so bad we can’t stay’.
Really? It took the latest outrage? Really?
@JimmyB Yes this is a fair question (I'm working so I'm getting to replies all at once, apologies for the deluge)
But it's not one we need to throw at every person/org that's just quit the shit thing, finally - yes it's weird it's this late. But questioning that at them, loudly, the second they depart? Not convinced that's helpful for anything.

@noodlemaz so I definitely don’t throw this at everyone - in fact I wonder if I’ve ever done it before?
And I put up a simple post - fairly mild. Was that really so bad? Because I think their post was shocking tbh…
