In 1916, under President Woodrow Wilson, the United States signed the purchase of the Virgin Islands from Denmark, in a convention in which the United States recognised Denmark's right to the whole of Greenland.
Danish MP's of The Defence Committee will convene in the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility at 18:00 to discuss the defence of Greenland.

@randahl Not like it matters. Have you seen our Constitution? The Bill of Rights? I know the #orangefacedbuffoon hasn't. At this point I'm convinced him and all his cronies don't even know how to read. #fucktrump

@randahl Is that like how Ukraine was always going to be protected if they gave up their nuclear arms? Is it like that?
That worked out well, didn't it.
@invadersil @randahl

@randahl It's a document that DJT finds incovenient, and will probably ignore. It's another treaty he will break.

@randahl ”Danish MP's of The Defence Committee will convene in the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility at 18:00 to discuss the defence of Greenland.”
Is that the meeting about Greenland without Greenland being invited?

@randahl There's an easy spin for trump et al to explain their ignoring the document:
Quote: United States of America will not object to the Danish Government extending their political and economic interests to the whole of Greenland.
They'll just say Denmark has failed in extending their political and economic interests to the whole of Greenland and therefore it's down to the good ol' us of a to do the job for Greenland on Denmark's behalf. Simples!

@randahl Denmark/Greenland should realize that this paper is worthless. Only strength and defiant escalation will work (IMHO). End the US base lease immediately, ask / force them to leave, deploy Danish or NATO troops to Greenland. Only by making it super expensive and risking loss of US troops will TACO back down. All just my opinion. You can't negotiate with him because he's not following any rules, just what's good for him and his cronies.

@randahl Do you think a document like this matters to Trump, who is riding roughshod over the rule of law? Historically, I think any Native American or First Nations people would tell you that U.S. government agreements are not worth the paper they're written on.

@randahl Dynamite. Even though he'll just march over it roughshod. Because he is IT and IT can do as IT pleases because IT is God Emperor of MAGAland.

@elCelio @randahl Folketinget has two members that are elected by the Greenlandic people, but no representatives from the Greenland self-governance were invited, either from the Inatsisartut or the Naalakkersuisut, so ”Greenland” as an entity was not invited (even though you could argue that representatatives from the Greenlandic people were). This is remarkable.

@randahl pretty sure there's a couple of deals with Indian tribes that preceded this and were worth just as much - ignore all deals and treaties with the US because they will whenever it favors them.

@invadersil @randahl
You might want to read the exact wording of the Budapest memorandum...@doboprobodyne @invadersil @randahl that's right, very few treaties are worth the paper they're written on, just a load of high-minded rhetoric full of false support and fake diplomacy, but I guess what it will do is ensure the rest of the world will never give up their nuclear weapons, no matter what these lying scummy political meat bags promise them...
