Is the earpiece on the original #PinePhone very quiet during calls for anyone else? Like in a relatively quiet room I can hear the other person fine but as soon as I go somewhere public it gets very difficult.

@MonkeyPanic@nerdculture.de That makes sense, and I think it points to a real limitation of the study. The participants were all late learners, people who didn't grow up with the foreign language at home. If you acquired both languages early and tied them to lived experience and emotion, the “foreign language effect” probably looks very different. Your Korean triggering emotions despite the vocabulary gap seems like evidence of exactly that.

@DarkSheepArts I just minutes ago had a handyman(?) put a mirrored bathroom cabinet onto a wall that has the building's hallway on the other side.
And I *did* absurdly worry about him going through the wall, and the screws poking out int the hallway 🤪
Good to know that that worry wasn't *that* absurd...
