How can I figure out what's wrong with my fingerprint reader on Android, specifically fairphone 6.

I would like to avoid factory resetting my system to avoid having to set up all my (payment and messaging) apps again.

Fairphone has no good documentation for debugging this, so I built my own debugging app. This indicates the hardware is fine but software is not.

SW produces systematic failures and I've never heard about this kind of problem from other users.

I think a hardware problem could better explain this issue but this is not a part they sell spare for.

So you should open a ticket to the support and see what they say. It'll take time so the earlier the better.

Unfortunately, the reset to factory settings is unavoidable when you send the phone to the support...
