Dear Fedi friends,

Dear Fedi friends,
I'm currently busy organizing the birthday party of my little one.
How lucky I am that I can still protect her from the Brave New World of the broligarchs. It's relatively easy now (she's turning 5)... but it'll get more difficult as time goes by.
If you wonder where my passion for FOSS and the Fediverse comes from: this is it. I want to help make a better world for her and her peers.
As I like to say: it's not going to be easy, but it's definitely going to be worth it ✊

@_elena teach her to modify and upgrade her toys. she'll get used to the idea that the objects she holds are hers and should do what she wants. toys get broken but appliances and software tools are not malleable will not be tolerated later

@mensrea great advice!
her favorite "toy" is LEGO (hmmm I wonder where she got that from) so I'm teaching her how to have hours of endless fun with the same things that can be rearranged... and I'm teaching her to build things out of LEGO (like toothbrush or pencil holders, etc)... 🤗

@_elena Mine are using Fedora on their first laptop at age 7. They use it only at school, never at home.
They also believe that smartphones tend to make people dumber, so they’ve actually lost interest in most mobile-tech stuff except for Fedora, and a few open-source games + duolingo to improve their english 🙂 -

@frhuy the broligarchs may have greed as their motivating drive but it's NOTHING compared to the passion of parents, grandparents, siblings, aunties, uncles and caretakers 💁♀️ when I think of this, I have hope for this fight

I aspire to teach her cool stuff with my Raspi soon... and I will definitely make her a Linux laptop when the time comes.
I got into self-hosting so that one day I could set up a Fedi instance for her and her friends. She's my biggest inspiration for this fight 😊

@_elena that's designed to do that. but take the electric tooth brush and make it a lock pick, or put some gi joe legs on a barbie. then you get to this artifact should fit my needs and i should be able to make it do that

@mensrea excellent!
tangentially related but one of my biggest accomplishments so far as a parent is that she HATES Barbie dolls and is into anatomically correct, age appropriate dolls instead (like Lotties). Part of having a mom that made a documentary about unattainable beauty ideals... and made promotional docs for Lottie.com 🤗
