I've got an IKEA lamp by my bedside and the halogen bulb just died after 20yrs or so.

Ikea prob sold many millions of these. I saw many around and pics come up right away when searching 'halogen Ikea lamp.' Many search hits are labelled 'vintage' 😂
It's the telescopic Expressivo model. Mine's white like this pic. Got or had one yourself?
Many pics don't show the little adjuster stick. This black one shows it, but it likely breaks off for many owners.
I wouldn't be surprised if the halogen bulb emits in the UV somewhat, and degrades the plastic, helping it along.

@mWare probably so. Perhaps the heat is more of a factor making the plastic somewhat brittle.

Early CodeGen enthusiasts talked about "I can accomplish code while walking my dog / taking my kid to the park". Shock and surprise, capitalism doesn't work that way.
Engineers are working longer hours, doing less fulfilling work, are expected to ship faster, often after their org experiences major layoffs, and the quality of output is lower.

@OGjester I've been to the 'Dutch' Carribbean islands, Curacao. Didn't like it.
Edit: half of the islands felt like a vacation park for trashy Dutchies, the other half poor and miserable. The beaches were so so.
