I am reading up on Russian history and how President Mikhail Gorbachev bravely fought alcoholism in Russian society in the late 1980s, which lead to a decline in mortality… but… sadly created a major dent in the state budget, because Gorbachev had forgotten that selling alcohol was a major source of state revenue.
Luckily, Putin fixed it all, and alcoholism is now back with a vengeance.

At the end of WWII, the Russian people drank the Soviet strategic reserve of vodka within 24hrs
