iRobot, the maker of the iconic Roomba vacuum cleaner, is filing for bankruptcy. The company has been outmatched by Chinese competitors and the last ditch attempt to save the company by selling it to Amazon in 2023 was blocked by regulators.
I guess it’s better for the company to fail than for Amazon to own a robot vacuum cleaner company while also selling them on its website. 🤦🏾♂️

@carnage4life Honestly, yes? Amazon would have just fired everyone and strip-mined the brand anyway, so it was dead either way. At least this way, we don't have zombie-roombas helping to make Bezos' margin just a tiny bit higher.

Certo, per tanti questo periodo è terribile, psicologicamente. Pochi giorni fa ho donato una ventina di Euri a qualcuno che manco conosco per permetterle di fare il Natale lontano da casa, a pochi mesi dalla perdita del marito. Solo perché stare lì le avrebbe fatto malissimo, viste le circostanze (la campagna ha avuto successo, ha potuto organizzare il viaggio in tempi brevissimi).Però, ripeto, il malessere psicologico individuale non mi basta, come spiegazione. Che si allacci in alcuni casi a certe ideologie radicali, in un momento in cui queste vengono pompate urbi et orbi forzosamente e artificialmente, mi sembra un effetto voluto e funzionale a un certo tipo di deriva.
