@thordis Xennial here, microgeneration on the cusp of Gen X and Millennials, aka Oregon Trail Generation / Generation Catalano - analog childhood and digital adulthood
@thordis just read the comments. looks like I’m not alone :)
-
@kevingranade @david_kehm @thordis I find that when I’m around other ppl my same gen, we can relate based on things like movies, bands, things like that. It even happens with strangers who I have little in common with otherwise. I never considered that other ppl don’t have that experience.
@PermaSolarPotter @david_kehm @thordis there's a pretty big difference between, "people born at about the same time as you" and "people in a similar stage of life to you" vs "uselessly broad and arbitrary range of birth dates".
Like, people in your cohort at school, people in middle school vs highvschool vs at college vs working are all meaningful distinctions, but "was this person born just before or just after 1980" is meaningless.

@thordis Pre-boomer?...four score and more.
-
@thordis The new forkiverse people might be millennial leaning, but the rest of masto tends to be older.
@Bumblefish @thordis Yeah I was surprised to hear of someone thinking it was mostly millennials here. The polls I've seen before had most people here around ~40 yo. Of course, that's probably a biased sample because of the whole "birds of a feather" thing

@thordis I was born too soon to be millennial

@thordis where’s the option for “I don’t recognise your marketing segments as something to identify with”?
-
I believe the Boomer generation is also referred to as the 'Me' generation, and in the West it was certainly a good time to be born.
Full employment, good pensions, health and social care, affordable housing, free education, historically low levels of wealth inequality and historically high levels of social mobility were common before the eighties.
And all of that reversed while I went from born to adult, thanks to bullshit "trickle down" economics. (Don't ask what is trickling. It isn't money.)
