just heard the most american airport announcement ever:
“we are now boarding to paris, a reminder that this destination is international, meaning outside of the united states”
LMAO
that is indeed a perfect encapsulation.
i actually heard a florida couple explaining why they didn't want to go to europe.
"well, we like to travel but we really wouldn't like to deal with all those foreigners everywhere and all that strange food"
SMDH...

@SecureOwl Aah, not Paris, Texas. ;)
@WillyECoyote69 @SecureOwl, given the way that Americans usually (so far as I know) say things like that, shouldn't that be Paristexas?
-
@SecureOwl While changing planes in Oklahoma City:
"Reminder to passengers arriving from Houston flight XXX that checked firearms will be available on baggage claim 4. Other luggage will be arriving on baggage claim 3."@c_dan4th @SecureOwl "Ammo available in the vending machines by the Apple Bee's / Starbucks"
-
@loke @SecureOwl Yeah, a lot of people do not understand the idea. They think new Mexico and Hawaii are outside the United States, but then expect American law to apply in France, which it does not.
That there is a Paris in Texas does not help.
@madengineering @loke @SecureOwl Is there an airport in Paris, Texas?
It would make the announcement vaguely more sensible. -

@SecureOwl Back in 2011, if you typed in Paris when searching for a city in Facebook, these were the only options. The one in Tennessee with the Eiffel Tower looks amazing. No wonder few folks know about non-US Parises, since they have so many at home!
-
just a note that yes, i know there is a Paris, TX, however, somewhat crucially, there is no commercial airport there.
@SecureOwl
Attention! Parisians. -
@SecureOwl
A gentle reminder that there is no opera house in Sydney, Nova Scotia -

@SecureOwl fun fact: Paris Texas and London Texas are further apart than Paris and London are.

@SecureOwl Austria has a special desk for people arriving thinking they are in Australia.
-
@SecureOwl “A gentle reminder to all passengers that international Paris is full of French people who don’t (or won’t) speak English.”
@benjamincox @SecureOwl French people pretending to not speak any English because they're not impressed with your failure to at least *try* speaking some French, is a thing we encountered!
Make that effort, though - even if your French is terrible - and suddenly they'll be speaking English better than many English people.

@sheddi @gueuledatmosphere @SecureOwl a bit disappointing really that he just gave up.I mean, he should have seen that as a wild adventure and carried on with what he was doing.Why go home? He was in canada, canada's cool

In the USA of today, they probably mean that if you go there, it might not be possible to return.

@ApostateEnglishman @SecureOwl It’s been too long since I had the pleasure of visiting France. Maybe one day. 🙂

@seindal @SecureOwl When you do return, Border Security will demand your digital devices and passwords. They will review your social media and email history for the past 5 yrs and if they find anything anti-trump, you'll be detained, arrested, or refused entry.
