Not every environmental issue should be viewed through the lens of CO₂. The death of corals would actually be good for atmospheric CO₂. Coral calcification releases CO₂, and the dissolution of coral would allow the ocean to take up more atmospheric CO₂.
However, coral reefs support biodiversity and provide food, coastal protection, and income for up to a billion people around the world. There are reasons to save coral reefs that have nothing to do with CO₂.
