@Edent
Did you find a solution to the quoting bot issue? This quote post came through.@cwilcox808 I did! Full write up in a couple of days.

@Edent You might want to give these movies a look.
Der Schuh des Manitu (Wild West)
Traumschiff Surprise (Same team as above but Star Trek/6th Element/Star Wars ) -
@Edent I enjoyed Murder Mindfully which is conveniently available on UK Netflix.

Lammbock 1, 2, 3

@Edent Maybe the other way around? I do not know about sources with subtitles, but "Stromberg", the german adaption of "The Office" is great, in my opinion. It has a lot of similarities, but it has enough different spin to not be just a remake. Bernd Stromberg, the protagonist, has a great balance of "He is a racist, misogynist asshole, but somehow likable". 🙂

@Edent It's rooted in german comedy culture on a level, that the main actor himself parodied Stromberg in another comedy show, where he is Adolf Hitler and the whole Office-Setting is sort of the Nazi-Headquarter. 😄

@Edent I would recommend "Mord mit Aussicht" (also with Bjarne Mädel, Der Tatortreiniger) but I really dont know if there are subtitles available.
I also recommend "Soul Kitchen" from Fatih Akin.

@mndflayr Perhaps you would care to give your positive recommendation?
That would be more helpful than criticising someone else. -
"Classic" typical German stuff would probably be anything by "Loriot". Not sure if there's something with subtitles, though.

@mndflayr What German comedy would you recommend which has English subtitles?

Hmm, also "Dinner for One" is an English language sketch, although one produced in Germany, and only recently started to gain popularity outside of Germany.
It's even available on YouTube.

So, to summarise:* You were rude to someone who replied to me.
* You don't know the answer to the question I asked.
* You then gave an irrelevant answer.Do better in future, please.

@Edent I think with the "Tatortreiniger" you already found one of the best comedies ever from germany. If you want to see about what we laughed in the 70s and 80s, everything from Loriot ist great. It was very subversive for the time it was created. Great subtile humor. A lot of small sketches also as movies exist from him.
"Toni Erdmann" is a great movie and a masterpiece of subtile humor.
All the films of Helge Schneider, but I do not know, if they work with subtitles.
"Lammbock" is a great comedy from the early 2000s.
If you want to see what is the mainstream humor in germany, just have a look for everything from "Bully Herbig" -

I was not rude to @SunDancer, just to the movies.
Those are just one looong atrocious joke about how incredible gay gay people are.Concerning Loriot, some of his sketches can be found on YouTube with subtitles.

For example.
Also, "Dinner for One" is an old German sketch, despite being in English Language, and every German knows it.

@SunDancer @Edent same with the Otto movies, rewatched one a few years ago and found it incredibly racist.
Something to try though might be Werner - Beinhart!, Das Kleine Arschloch (both animated movies, don't know how they've aged) and Wer Früher Stirbt ist Länger Tot, a bavarian dark-ish comedy (unsure about subtitles or availability for this one) -
@Edent works if I manually reload the mastodon web app after it shows up with the "pending" message.
Feels like the mastodon needs to either automatically update when it gets the authorisation to show the quote, or hold off showing it until it receives it.
Looks like already an open issue:

@Edent define German - Tschugger is a Swiss cop spoof with 3 series and 2 films I think. Netflix has the first 2 seasons with English subtitles. Brilliant! Final series is also there but for some reason without English subs 😥
They're speaking Wallis-Deutsch which is vaguely German but no-one understands. High-German subtitles also recommended ;)
