No mail gets delivered directly to our house

  • No mail gets delivered directly to our house.
    When my husband built the house he didn't see a need for home delivery. In the fifty years since circumstances have changed.
    Because we can't have a mailbox on our side of the road we would have to get the across the street neighbors to allow us add a mailbox on their property and complete the process of becoming a mail destination.
    It gets complicated.
    Because the postal service doesn't deliver to us UPS and FedEx won't either.
    For that reason I drive a few miles to our post office box almost daily. All of the medical supplies we rely on come in the mail.
    This post office has a tiny parking lot with an awkward and narrow turn exit.
    Along the exit that I don't like to navigate is this plant. I've never seen another one like it.
    The green flower looking things are huge.
    Not sure if it was worth stopping traffic to take a picture but I did anyway.

    @NorcalGma2 I’m not sure where in the world you are but this looks like a large sempervivium.

    @NorcalGma2

    We've got something similar growing in our garden.

    @NorcalGma2 This plant looks rather jade-like. And when I lived in Southern California (Burbank), jade plants were everywhere (I miss that!).

    Sorry you have to do such machinations for your daily mail/package delivery needs. I didn't know that it could be optional to be a part of the mail delivery network.

    @NorcalGma2

    Very nice!

    I was looking online at hardy succulents to plant in the area out front where our foundation shrubs were, and saw several that look like this...this nursery is north of you, near the Oregon border:

    @NorcalGma2 this is a semi desert succulent. I have a few on my balcony here in Malta. They do very well, even in our hot summers. They open out in the wet season and close up almost completely in the dry heat.

    @NorcalGma2 My Seek app identifies it as a Tree Aeonium - Aeonium arboreum

    If you don't have the Seek app you should download it. Great tool for identifying plants and animals.

    When I was working for Arcata Fire I used it a lot as I would see some unknown plant during an inspection and it was a great way to identify it and then on the way home I'd stop at Miler's and see if they had it.

    It was also invaluable for putting together my flora and fauna pages, a web list of all the plants and animals I've identified in our yard.

    I will do that.
    Thanks.
    My timeline works like that too.
