Hi, the Mastodons. I don't know how this works yet or how active I'll be here, but I thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm a UK-based female AuDHD adult, choosing to remain mostly anonymous. I'm really just curious about how the Fediverse works - I can be ambivalent about social media but I thought this sounded refreshing in contrast to the big, powerful platforms which feel scarier to me by the minute. I've also been getting to grips with Linux recently, and am thinking about other ways within my limited means and courage to try to be involved with more of the small things that are about moving away from exploitation and towards caring for each other.

@OneInterestingFact Hello! LOL, I sort of really didn't know what to put, but it's been a nice surprise how friendly everyone has been!
I don't have any experience of other social media so no expectations but yes, generally friendly is exactly how I've found it too.
Although I came for art and relaxation I've found myself drifting into politics more than I intended, or maybe politics is intruding, but I am advised that running two accounts can be a way to get back if you head too far off course... -

@Gina my personal response is don’t be afraid of spending money. Of course be responsible and budget, but not doing something you want to do (campervanning) just because you might spend savings is a mistake. You can try a low risk version. Rent a van instead of buying one, take a week long trip somewhere to see if you like it, do experiments, and going for longer trips if you and your cats end up enjoying it. I wish i could go over to europe for a longer stay.

Prima eetcultuur (toeristische restaurants mijden). Strand, zee, zon.Mijn puberkids waren erg enthousiast (en ik ook wel). Ook vanwege het winkelaanbod.

I agree with your point, and it is righteous in many ways.
What I do not understand is why you make it as "dependent" on the AI topic: it could be said the same for any other (more or less) controversial technology or technology provider.
Have you experienced a negative reaction for using AI tools? How did you handle it?
I agree that AI is more popular than others and that it is easier to find people who are marginalised for using it, but the same could be said for Crypto, NFT and any other fascism-as-a-service offering users. They also deserve to be given voice and not being marginalised.

@Gina addendum: are you looking into staying in Europe or far off places are being evaluated too? A dear Canadian friend who's an entrepreneur has gone many times to Aruba (in the Caribbeans) and she LOVED it. The official language is Dutch... just putting that out there...
