@ozoramore_dev People have been talking about this for years, no one is happy with summary...My favorite solution doesn't need a FEP, though.

The second thing here is: A content warning FEP can propose a better solution than mastodon implements. There is no mechanism to make mastodon implement this FEP.

@helge @ozoramore_dev We can make Mastodon irrelevant. That's the mechanism.

silverpill@mitra.social helge@mymath.rocks I'm thinking that Mastodon is likely open to changing things.

It's the broken windows theory. Mastodon's usage of CWs by stuffing it into summaries is so incredibly bad, I cannot in good faith say that I expect them to improve stuff.
Also doing it properly would be incredibly complicated. Remember not only posts, but also images can be sensitive. See here, which is broken.

helge@mymath.rocks to be fair, while I can't speak for the Mastodon devs, I think they've come around to the idea that a more robust solution is needed (perhaps renchap@oisaur.com can weigh in.)
The long-form content people have been advocating for use of
summary
as an actual summary. It will take time to rewind this Mastodon-ism, and it cannot be done until that aforementioned robust solution is complete. This is where thisismissem@hachyderm.io would weigh in since this is part of what the Trust & Safety TF is working on.
