Is there such a thing as an #ActivityPub spamfilter?
The #Fediverse already has a very heterogeneous software landscape. I'm reading about proposals to add support to #GitLab as well. But one problem would be common to every implementation: Spam.
And just like MTAs don't each implement their own spam filtering and instead rely on rspamd and spamassassin, I feel like some middleware should exist for ActivityPub as well.

Someone thought of this two years ago, but that project really is what it claims to be: simple. And abandoned.

We're not currently doing anything around spam because it's not really a specification issue. There has been a few projects in this space, but when I've tested them they've left a lot to be desired. I can't remember specific names off top of head now though because it's been at least 6 months since I did that reaearch

Nah, I suspect in Ubuntu 26.04 LTS version 8.5 will be available. For those simpler/cheaper webhosting with some oldstable Debian I suspect they use PHP packaged by SURY.
I just have to be patient.

@aslakr yeah, it's a tough trade-off.
The new curl stuff in 8.5 looks essential for dealing with all the POSTing it has to do - and the new URl validation is very handy.Happy for you to make an 8.3 fork if you think it is worth it.

@silverpill @julian @general account backfilling is issue number THIRTY FOUR in mastodon and has >700 thumbs, >200 comments hemming and hawing about how possible it would be for TEN YEARS.
the solution is just "enumerate the outbox" and it's 200 lines.
like we already have a mechanism for reply controls: the reply collection.
for fine-grained post visibility: access control on the outbox collection.
broadcasting feeds and posts between instances: collections
migrations: collections
store and forward, offline-focused AP: collectionsand so on.

@silverpill @julian @general Collections are one of the best parts of activitypub/streams and i have no idea why nobody uses them or works on them. like if we embraced the underlying graph structure of the data and used the canonicalization algos that have been developed in the meantime we get all the good parts of atproto (mostly efficient updating the pds system) basically for free
