Stop describing the fediverse is Mastodon!
The social platform Fediverse is a collection of volunteer driven knots connected with open source protocols. Protocols are mostly free open source software. Developed by volunteers. Mastodon is one collection of software.
You should promote other software for fediverse also. To keep the idea and the stability of the federated Fediverse.

Mastodon is a fab and a very bad project, yep can be too things at the same time... on balance more good than bad, but it's past time to start prodding the bad more on balance.

@hamishcampbell The beauty of open source, you can take Mastodon source code, and fork it and do whatever you want with it. Not happy with how they run things? Do something different if you have an idea you believe in.
Don't like their branding? Suggest something different? How about providing some solutions to the problems you experience?
Contribute, send a "PR", break it down into manageable components and make small iterative steps towards something ... better?

I don't get it. Mastodon is a fantastic project and much because of it ... I'm here, and I'm sure tons of people like me discovered the Fediverse because of Mastodon.
They didn't have to tell me about all the other projects, I found them anyway. I want Mastodon to be Mastodon. As long as they are true to AP and continue to champion that... I'm happy.
Obligating them to promote other fediverse projects seem unnecessary. Let them stay focused on building their software, and Pixelfed can focus on theirs.
Should curl promote wget? Or should Fedora promote Ubuntu?
It makes no sense. They are all part of the same "movement", but that doesn't mean they hvae to champion each other, does it?

@dirkblank @nopatience I agree with you. Mastodon is the most mature software I use on the Fediverse. I also use it more often, although I understood better Pixelfed dynamics more recently, because I prefer to communicate using words. That's also the reason recently I restarted a blog connected to the Fediverse, but I don't care if Mastodon team doesn't mention the other apps in using that are connected via one common protocol.
P. S. I've just content now: I have personal accounts on 7 different apps connected via AP. I use 95% of my time writing on my Mastodon account.

@Mastodon I'd actually say we weren't championing anything. And by not championing rage, polarisation and monetisation of attention, we are putting people where they are by default: first.

@Mastodon It's not a platform in the same way that cities are not a platform. Mastodon is a tool for setting up associating hives.

Polymer Skins That Change Color and Texture When Exposed to Water
Researchers at Stanford University recently came up with an interesting way (Phys.org summary) to create patterns and colors that emerge when a polymer is exposed to water. Although the paper itself is sadly paywalled with no preprint available, itās fairly easily summarized and illustrated with details from the Supplementary Data section. The polymer used is poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS), which when exposed to an electron beam (electron-beam lithography) undergoes certain changes that become apparent when said water is added.
The polymer is hygroscopic, but the electron beam modifies the extent to which a specific area swells up, thus making it possible to create patterns that depend on the amount of electron beam exposure. In order to ācolorizeā the polymer, complex cavities are created that modify the angular distribution of light, as illustrated in the top image from the Supplemental Data docx file.
By varying the concentration of IPA versus water, the intermediate swelling states can be controlled. Although this sounds pretty advanced, if you look at the supplementary videos that are already sped up a lot, you can see that it is a very slow process. Compared to an octopus and kin whose ability to alter their own skin texture and coloring is legendary and directly controlled by their nervous system, this isnāt quite in the same ballpark yet, even if itās pretty cool to watch.

Normally, I wouldn't comment on someone's weight, but I think it's notable that Carleigh was quite slim at the start of season 3, and she almost certainly would have won if she'd come into the game 20 pounds heavier to start with. She has learned that lesson. That's commitment. (Still fine af.)
