@weekend_editor As a user I lived through several computing revolutions and technologies. But I've never seen any next big thing being forced by the industry and press upon everyone everywhere at such scale, with everyone evaluated by how much they use it. The intensity of this push is unprecedented and breathtaking.
Did I miss something in the past?

@giacomom ho installato un server XMPP (su un vps europeo) e detto ai parenti che se volevano parlarmi dovevano installare conversations sul loro cellulare e usare i dati dell'account che avevo preparato per loro per loggarsi, altrimenti potevano andare avanti a mandarmi email e basta.
il fatto di non aver mai avuto whatsapp o simili ha aiutato
(gli amici sono quasi tutti nerd, qualcuno di loro ha un account sul mio server, qualcuno si è fatto il suo, condiviso coi suoi parenti)
ammetto che c'è mia madre che invece continua ad usare anche whatsapp con le sue amiche, e che quindi può ricevere gli avvisi del comune o simili (inserire imprecazioni qui) e riferirmeli
