And yes, I mean «detracting» not «distracting». It detracts from the quality of the reporting, and it diminishes my interest not by moving it elsewhere but by covering it in excess.
I find I much prefer posts about #politics when they're “dry”, limited to #reporting facts and context. The more they try to drive an emotional charge in the reader («OMG LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID! ISN'T IT DRAMATIC, ISN'T IT SAD? HOW COULD THEY EVER EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING SOMETHING THAT!») the more I find it annoying and detracting. I actually lose interest in even learning about what's being discussed rather than finding my interest stoked, and the only emotion they arouse in me is «oh shut up».
