The view down Renfield Street to Union Street in Glasgow this morning. After yesterday's fire, the familiar dome of the 175 year old Union Corner building is gone, as is the facade which once stretched down Union Street to Caledonian Chambers (where there is a side entrance to Central Station). Smoke still billows from the burned out remains and drifts across the centre of Glasgow.

This is not a good scene to wake up to, but at least no one in the building or any firefighters were hurt. The neighbouring Central Station, a key element of Victorian Glasgow and an important hub for modern communters, is closed, but is hopefully unharmed.

@thisismyglasgow the fire fighters tackling that blaze whilst perched on those high ladders and dealing with a hose of water, was incredible, what courage

@fionaorkneynews @thisismyglasgow SFRS did an amazing job, agreed. Fire is just very powerful stuff.
From what I've heard it's believed the station itself is fine. They are just, rightly, being very cautious.
Someone official needs have a good look into vape shops. So much potentially hazardous material in them.

I can tell just how much I've lost by my bathrobe. Towards the end of 2024 it barely closed anymore. Now each flap wraps to the side of my body. That's a *huge* amount lost.
